Cockatiels sometimes called quarrion birds are natives of Australia .were they are called "Cockies" they can be found traveling in pairs or small flocks feeding on grasses and cultivated crops. Breeding is normaly between August and September (Austrailian winter).predominantly grey with a wide band of white on their wings ,these are hardy birds with a life expectancy of around 15-20 years ---
Great changes have taken place with the tame caged cockatiels mainly the different types all showing the new colouring through selected breeding - the Cinnamon pied was the first to catch peoples eye with the very bright yellow head of the male ,then the Cinnamon pearl pied a very striking bird the female is the star with yellow pearling ,the males is whiter and the pearling can fade with age  so they end up being more like a cinnamon pied  ,then the Lutino yellowish white with a lovely orange cheek patch over the ear ,theres the Albino with no pigmantation just pure white and red eyes , the Whiteface one of my favourites ,these range from pure white with a few black or cinnamon feathers to almost black with little white but noticably the white cheeks such a large proud looking bird ,and we have the Primrose mainly yellow like their name says with black markings a very handsome bird -some call it a lutino pied, one of the  latest type is the Yellow cheeked not many around at the moment but interest is growing with cinnamon /pearl  feathering they are a lovely bird to see ,theres Silvers and different crosses giving you a wide variety to choose from .-Caged birds can live up to 27 years and breed all year round and are normaly sold around 8 weeks old when they are fully weaned ,a handreared bird is so very trusting and loves to interact with us humans .some make great talkers and can whistle all types of tunes --also a few females have been known to be very vocal so not only do the males talk
